Island Arts and Culture

Anna Maria Island offers a diverse blend of cultural experiences from visual arts, writers, theatres and island art projects.

Cultural Connections of Anna Maria community proudly supports over seven art galleries and studios, a nationally recognised historical society, a renowned orchestra and chorus and a published writers’ group.

One of the signature events held each November is ArtsHOP. Weekend activities for the event include a gallery walk feature local galleries, artists and musicians, a performance by the Island Players, an arts and display and a concert by the AMI Chorus and Orchestra.

Anna Maria Island Art League

The league was founded in 1989 by artists and art lovers who had a passion for bringing art to the community. They opened an Arts Centre on Holmes Bvd, which includes a large exhibit, membership gallery or conference room, photo lab, art library and a picnic area. New exhibits are hung each month and feature work from members, students, faculty and regional artists. Artwork is unique and on sale by the artists.

Artists Guild Gallery

This was one of the first galleries on the island and has been popular with those looking to buy art for around 20 years. The artists themselves show, sell and run the not for profit gallery.

The gallery features local artists and has over 100 members. It also supports arts education with educational grants, scholarships and monthly displays of high school students’ artwork. Every year a scholarship is given by the Guild to a graduating Manatee County senior. The Guild funds these activities by donations from members.

The gallery seeks to educate, promote and encourage artistic endeavours of its members and the community.

The Studio at Gulf and Pine

The Studio at Gulf and Pine offers an array of exhibits, classes, lectures and discussion groups and acts as a place where artists and art enthusiasts can interact.

It boasts a theatre film projection room and spanning nearly 4,000 square feet, The Studio welcomes artists, poets, musicians, performers and writers to exhibit their talents and exchange ideas. It also hosts fine art exhibits, drama workshops, music and literary events and is available for catered events.

Island Players Theatre

This is the oldest community theatre in Manatee County. The building has a great historical significance and was first known at the Anna Maria Tourist Center. It became a center of activity and all city businesses were conducted from there. It was also used as a community hall for social gatherings, church services, a school room and finally an Island community theatre.

The theatre presents five stage shows from October to May each year.

Anna Maria Island Community Choir and Orchestra

The choir and orchestra were founded in 1992 and are known to some as ‘the gem of the island.’ The orchestra and choir come under one umbrella and both orchestral and vocal harmony’s work together at every performance.

The talented Maestro has drawn in professional artists and retired musicians residing in the community to provide valuable and unique performances.

Concerts are given four times a year, November through March and take place at the CrossPointe Fellowship Church.

Anna Maria Island is a hub for art and culture.
