Holmes Beach
Holmes Beach is bordered on the north by Anna Maria City and the south by Bradenton Beach and has a population of 4,966 (U.S Census 2000). It boasts 3 miles of gorgeous sandy beaches and is the business center of the island.
Along with a huge variety of shops and restaurants, Holmes Beach boasts the library, grocery stores and banks. Additionally, Manatee County Beach greets visitors to the island and the beach café serves guests on the beach patio. The city also offers easy access to the Intracoastal Waterway and one of the two bridges to the island, Manatee Bridge, brings the traveler into Holmes Beach.
Holmes Beach was created at the end of World War II by Jack Holmes; he was a developer with a dream and created a 600-acre community. Now Holmes Beach is a blend of residential homes, condominium developments and businesses all working in harmony with the islands small town heritage.
